The protesters held signs with messages such as ‘Death to American Imperialism.’
On Wednesday, Kenyan police beat citizens who attempted to protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi against Washington’s attack in Venezuela and the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The protesters held signs with messages such as “Hands off Venezuela,” “Death to American imperialism,” “Free Cilia Flores,” and “Yankee, go home.” They also chanted slogans like “Long live the spirit of Hugo Chavez” and “Kenyans against imperialism.”
Facing the small gathering, about thirty police officers deployed to prevent the group from advancing toward the embassy. Although they initially spoke with the protesters, they soon began dispersing them with forceful blows from batons and clubs and with slaps, without any prior provocation.
“We are here to defend sovereignty and independence. Our protest today at the U.S. Embassy is a challenge to the arrogance of the American empire and is to say clearly that Africa stands in solidarity with Venezuela,” said Booker Ngesa Omole, secretary of the Marxist Communist Party of Kenya (CPMK).
“Africa has suffered greatly at the hands of not only colonialism, but also neocolonialism. That is why we cannot remain silent when Venezuela is being attacked,” Omole stated and criticized the Kenyan government, a traditional ally of Washington in East Africa.
These protesters joined other demonstrations that have taken place around the world against the kidnapping of President Maduro, such as recent gatherings in Lisbon, Portugal; Rome, Italy; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; and Pretoria, South Africa.
Following Washington’s aggression, the African Union called for respect for international order, although it avoided directly condemning the events. Some African countries were more forceful, such as South Africa, which stated the attack “undermines the principle of equality among nations,” and Ghana, which said U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements “evoke the colonial and imperialist era.”
“An attack on Venezuela is an attack on all oppressed nations. An attack on President Maduro is an attack on sovereignty. Imperialist kidnapping is a declaration of war on the peoples of the world,” Marxist Communist Party of Kenya posted on social networks.
“The struggle of the Venezuelan people is inseparable from the struggle of African peoples against neocolonial domination. From Nairobi to Caracas, the battlefield is one and the enemy is one. We reaffirm our unshakable solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We reaffirm proletarian internationalism as our guiding principle,” it added.
