As Muslims worldwide celebrated Eid al-Adha, Kenyan worshippers in Nairobi dedicated their prayers to Palestinians in Gaza, where food shortages and ongoing conflict have made festivities nearly impossible.
Leading Eid prayers, Imam Abdulrahman Mursal urged unity, stating, “We ask Allah to hear their cries. We feel their pain, even from afar, but what unites us is our Muslim brotherhood.”
For the second consecutive year, no Muslims in Gaza were able to travel for Hajj, and no fresh meat has entered the enclave in three months. The 20-month-long Israeli offensive has left all livestock dead, exacerbating starvation and suffering.
In response, Kenya’s Muslim community raised Ksh.5.4 million through the Gaza-Udhiya Program, funding cattle slaughter in Egypt to provide frozen meat for Gaza once humanitarian corridors reopen.
