In his inaugural address, Nawrocki claimed to have won the election “despite the propaganda, lies, political theater, and contempt” from his rivals. He expressed his willingness to curb the liberal initiatives of Donald Tusk’s government and complicate the second half of his term by using the presidential veto and maintaining judicial reforms.

The new president demonstrated his position vis-à-vis the European Union (EU), announcing that during his term, “he will not accept impositions from Brussels that harm Polish national interests.”

Nawrocki reiterated his rejection of the European Green Deal, calling it “a threat to Poland’s coal-based economy” and emphatically opposed a hypothetical entry into the euro. “NO to the euro: Poland cannot be a subsidiary economy of our western neighbors,” Nawrocki stressed.

Regarding the complex situation of the judiciary, which remains mired in institutional chaos since the reform undertaken more than a decade ago, the Polish president issued a direct warning to Donald Tusk’s administration and the EU institutions.

“Justice reform is the exclusive responsibility of the Polish people. We will not accept external pressure, neither from Brussels nor from Berlin, that seeks to interfere in our legal system,” he said.

Nawrocki also announced that he would focus on a program of balanced and sustainable development for Poland, known as Plan 21. He pledged to make Poland a country of transformative projects, including advancing the Central Communication Port, which involves building a new international airport, as well as the development of national highways and ports.

He declared a firm stance against illegal migration and the adoption of the euro in Poland and reaffirmed his opposition to raising the retirement age.

Later on Wednesday, Nawrocki will participate in further inauguration ceremonies, including a midday mass at St. John’s Archcathedral and a public appearance in front of the Presidential Palace.
