According to his statements on the Venezuelan Television (VTV) program A Pulso , these elections would include the election of governors, representatives, and legislative councils in the 159,542 km² that make up the territory.

Arreaza emphasized the historical importance of Guayana Esequiba , describing it as the territory for which Venezuelan heroes such as Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre fought.

Regarding the territorial dispute, the executive secretary of ALBA-TCP noted that the 1966 Geneva Agreement establishes that both Venezuela and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana (originally the United Kingdom) must sit down and seek a solution that satisfies both parties .

He criticized the fact that “they cannot impose and deny Venezuela its historical territory under the pretext of seizing our country’s resources.” In this regard, he attributed this situation to imperialism , with a network of corporations with specific objectives.

“Imperialism is a network of energy and pharmaceutical corporations, among others. They have their objectives. In the case of the Essequibo, ExxonMobil is thirsty for revenge; they want to create a conflict, and we will defend our territory ,” he said.

Arreaza also referred to the work of the current National Assembly, a body that has worked on the issue, unlike the 2015 Parliament, which, according to him, “would have handed over our territory.”

He also denounced the creation of a “false positive” by Guyana, referring to alleged attacks against Guyanese troops on the Cuyuní River.

In other statements, Jorge Arreaza stated that the Bolivarian Revolution is at a better moment” to participate in the May 25 elections, with a moment of greater harmony and unity under the leadership of Nicolás Maduro.
