At least five civilians were killed and seven others injured on Monday when an Israeli drone targeted a group of humanitarian aid personnel at Al-Tawam Roundabout in northern Gaza, according to medical sources. The victims were assisting in the distribution of relief supplies when the strike occurred. Several of the wounded remain in critical condition.
In a separate incident, Mahmoud Jawad Ali Al-Durra, a resident of Al-Bureij refugee camp, died from injuries sustained in an earlier Israeli airstrike. Meanwhile, Uday Nahed Al-Quraan, a nurse at Al-Aqsa Hospital, was fatally struck by heavy aid crates dropped from the air in Al-Zawaida, underscoring the chaotic and dangerous conditions surrounding humanitarian operations.
The cumulative death toll in Gaza has now reached 60,939, with 150,027 injuries reported since the start of Israel’s military campaign on October 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s health authorities. The majority of casualties are women and children, and at least 10,000 people remain missing, presumed buried under rubble.
Ambulance and civil defense teams continue to face severe challenges in reaching victims due to ongoing bombardments and a critical shortage of equipment and fuel. Aid workers and medical personnel have increasingly become casualties themselves, as strikes near distribution sites and hospitals intensify.
The incident at Al-Tawam adds to a growing list of attacks on humanitarian operations. In recent weeks, dozens of civilians have been killed while attempting to access food and medical aid, with the UN warning that over 1,000 people have died trying to receive assistance since May.
Humanitarian agencies report that Gaza is receiving only a fraction of the aid it requires. While 84 trucks per day have entered the enclave since late July, experts say 600 trucks daily are needed to meet basic needs. Many aid convoys have been looted or delayed due to logistical breakdowns and security risks.
The UN and international organizations continue to call for the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors, the restoration of ceasefire agreements, and accountability for attacks on aid workers. The situation remains dire, with famine-related deaths rising and infrastructure across the Strip in ruins.
