Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have resulted in at least 84 deaths, according to medical sources. The attacks have been particularly intense in northern Gaza, including Jabalia refugee camp, where 50 people were killed since early Wednesday.
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that almost 50 people died in Jabalia, while 10 others were killed in Khan Younis. Rescue workers in Jabalia have been digging through collapsed concrete slabs, using hand tools and cellphone lights to retrieve victims, including children.
Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum described the Israeli military campaign as systematic and intensifying, targeting residential homes to force families into makeshift tents, potentially as part of a displacement strategy.
Meanwhile, indirect ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas continue in Qatar, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. The discussions follow the release of Israeli-American captive Edan Alexander, which briefly paused Israel’s bombardment.
President Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, stated that “great progress” is being made in the truce negotiations, both regarding a ceasefire and the resumption of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
