Israeli airstrikes continued their assault on displaced civilians in Gaza overnight, striking two UN-run schools and killing at least 49 people, most of them children, women, and the elderly, according to reports from the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Medical sources confirmed that on Wednesday night, two Israeli airstrikes hit the Abu Hamisa school in Al-Bureij refugee camp, killing 33 civilians and wounding 73 others. The bombardment continued into Thursday morning, as two more Israeli strikes targeted Al-Karama school in Al-Tuffah, eastern Gaza, killing 16 people and injuring several more.
Journalists Among the Victims
Among those killed was Palestinian journalist Nour Abdu, raising the death toll of journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 213, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office.
Hospitals on the Verge of Total Collapse
The Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital is overwhelmed by waves of injured civilians suffering severe burns, amputations, and head injuries, as Israel’s continued military offensive pushes Gaza’s healthcare system toward total collapse.
On Tuesday, another Israeli attack on a displacement shelter in Al-Bureij killed 22 civilians, including seven children, while demolitions in Rafah persist, with reports confirming full Israeli control over the southern city.
Death Toll Mounts as Gaza Blockade Continues
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have killed at least 52,615 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded 118,752 others, with thousands still buried under rubble. The blockade on humanitarian aid has turned Gaza into an open-air prison, where starvation and devastation reign unchecked.
