Israeli airstrikes continued to devastate Gaza, with recent bombings targeting displacement shelters and UN-run schools, killing dozens and further collapsing the enclave’s already fragile health system.

On Tuesday, May 6, strikes hit the Al-Bureij refugee camp, where the Abu Hamisah school, operated by UNRWA, was bombed twice, resulting in 33 fatalities, including nine children and six women, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Another Israeli airstrike followed on Wednesday, May 7, striking Karama school in Tuffah, northern Gaza, killing at least 16 people, including a Palestinian journalist, bringing the total number of reporters killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 213.

At Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, medical personnel report severe overcrowding, as waves of patients with burn injuries, amputations, and head trauma continue arriving. Health authorities warn that critical shortages in medical supplies and personnel have pushed Gaza’s healthcare system to the brink of total collapse.

Despite international condemnation, Israel approved the expansion of its military offensive, aiming for full control of Gaza, while proposing military-supervised humanitarian aid entry, a move rejected by the UN and humanitarian organizations as a violation of fundamental humanitarian principles.

Since the start of Israel’s offensive on October 7, 2023, at least 52,653 Palestinians have been killed and 118,897 wounded, with thousands more trapped under rubble. The blockade has turned Gaza into an open-air prison, where starvation and humanitarian collapse define daily life.
