In a new chapter of escalating tensions in the Middle East, at least one person has been killed and nine others wounded following Israeli airstrikes on two strategic ports in Yemen, according to reports from the Houthi rebel-controlled Health Ministry.
The attacks, targeting Al Salif and Al Hudeida ports, have been condemned by Houthi authorities as a “blatant aggression,” constituting a war crime and a violation of international law.
The strikes come amid growing hostilities between Israel and the Houthis, who have ramped up military actions since the collapse of the Gaza ceasefire in late March. The Iran-backed rebels have been firing missiles into Israeli territory, prompting increased defensive measures from the Israeli military.
In response, Israel justified the airstrikes, claiming the targeted ports were being used for weapons smuggling and accusing the Houthis of exploiting civilian infrastructure for military purposes.
The situation has further intensified with recent missile launches from Yemen toward Israel, triggering air-raid sirens in several cities, including Jerusalem.
This cycle of attacks and counterattacks underscores the fragility of peace in the region and raises serious concerns about further escalation, which has already claimed numerous lives and left thousands in dire conditions.
Amid the turmoil, the Houthi Health Ministry has called on the international community to intervene against what it deems an “unacceptable aggression,” while Israeli forces maintain that their actions are necessary for national security.
Yemen, already devastated by years of civil war, now faces an even deeper crisis as these new strikes threaten to worsen the country’s humanitarian disaster.
