Israeli warplanes bombed Sana’a International Airport, striking a Yemenia Airlines passenger plane and the customs building, just ten days after civilian flights resumed following previous Israeli attacks.

According to Al Mayadeen, the airstrikes targeted the newly reopened airport, which had begun limited operations with flights between Sana’a and Amman, Jordan. The latest assault follows 30 Israeli air raids on May 6, which severely damaged civilian aircraft, terminals, and runways, disrupting humanitarian, medical, and economic routes across Yemen.

Yemeni authorities condemned the attack, stating that it seeks to isolate Yemen from the Arab world and beyond. The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights confirmed that the bombing led to the suspension of all flights by Yemenia Airlines, stranding thousands of civilians, including critically ill patients, who had planned to travel to Jordan for treatment.

In a statement, Yemen’s government urged the UN, the Security Council, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to publicly denounce the strikes and called for war crimes prosecution at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Yemeni government also demanded compensation for material and humanitarian losses, while pushing for international mechanisms to prevent further attacks on civilian infrastructure.

Just days before the airstrikes, Yemen’s Armed Forces launched two ballistic missile attacks on Israel, targeting Ben Gurion Airport and another strategic site, as part of their campaign to pressure Israel to end the blockade on Gaza and its military operations.
