An Israeli airstrike on Monday evening killed two civilians and wounded several others in the Al-Tawam area north of Gaza City, according to local reports.
The attack is part of a renewed wave of military operations that began after Israel unilaterally ended the ceasefire agreement on March 18, triggering a fresh escalation across the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire, which had been brokered in January and lasted until mid-March, collapsed amid mutual accusations of violations and stalled negotiations over hostage releases and humanitarian access. Since then, Israeli forces have resumed intensive bombardments, with hundreds of Palestinians killed in the first 24 hours alone.
Medical sources report that the cumulative death toll has now reached 60,933, with 150,027 injured since the war began in October 2023. In the past 24 hours alone, 94 bodies were recovered, including four from beneath rubble, and 439 casualties were admitted to hospitals. Among them were 29 fatalities and 300 injuries among civilians seeking humanitarian aid.
The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. At least 10,000 people remain missing, presumed dead under collapsed buildings.
Nearly two million Palestinians have been forcibly displaced, with the majority now crammed into Rafah, near the Egyptian border—marking the largest mass displacement since the 1948 Nakba.
Aid agencies warn that Gaza is spiraling into irreversible humanitarian collapse, with famine-related deaths rising and only 14% of required aid entering the enclave daily.
The UN and other humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for the restoration of safe aid corridors and a renewed ceasefire to prevent further loss of life.
