The Israeli army will resume airdropping aid into the Gaza Strip on Saturday night amid the growing humanitarian crisis due to food shortages, it said in a statement.

“Following an assessment of the situation carried out this afternoon, a series of actions have been initiated aimed at improving the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip and refuting the false claim of deliberate starvation in the Strip,” the statement said.
In this first aerial operation, which according to the statement will be carried out in coordination with international organizations, the Army and COGAT (Israeli body that manages civil affairs), about seven pallets with flour, sugar and canned food will be dropped.
This method has been criticized by international agencies as endangering the lives of the people of Gaza. In fact, dozens of Gazatíes died with the launch of some of these pallets that resulted in scenes of chaos and stampedes.
Furthermore, the Army said in its statement that it will establish designated humanitarian corridors to “facilitate the safe movement of UN convoys delivering food and medicine to the population.”
Since the end of last May, UN agencies, which until then were in charge of distributing aid, were relegated to the background with the arrival of the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), backed by the United States, in whose militarized complexes more than a thousand people have died while waiting in long lines.
Israel’s decision comes as deaths from malnutrition have soared in recent weeks, especially among children and infants. In the last 24 hours alone, five people have died from malnutrition, including a baby and two children.
In recent days, there has also been more criticism and pressure from the international community, in addition to complaints from the media and international organizations regarding the restrictions that Israel has continued to impose on the entry of food, medicine, and fuel into a Gaza Strip devastated by bombing.
Images of skeletal Gazan children due to lack of food have occupied some of the main front pages of the international press.
This Saturday, the Gazan government warned that if formula and nutritional supplements do not enter in the coming days, more than 100,000 children in Gaza are at risk of dying from malnutrition.
