As in previous instances, this new wave of violence was justified by the Israeli military, which argued that it was targeting infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah.
Local media outlet Al-Jadeed, however, reported that an Israeli drone struck the south Beirut campus of the Lebanese University in Hadath, killing Faculty of Sciences Director Hussein Bazzi and professor Murtada Srour.
“They are not just killing people — they are erasing knowledge and attacking the future of Lebanon,” Sarah, a young Lebanese woman, commented on social media.
Despite this new evidence of a war crime, Zionists forces announced on Thursday that they are preparing to expand their “operations” in Lebanon.
Speaking at a situation assessment meeting with senior officers, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the goal was to “restore peace and security to the northern communities.”
The chief of staff of the Israeli army, Eyal Zamir, said the war against the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah “will not be short.” He insisted that Beirut “does not exercise its authority within its own territory,” and warned that Israeli troops would do so.
Previously, on Wednesday night, Hezbollah launched its largest attack against Israel since the start of the war, firing 200 rockets and 20 drones.
Early Thursday morning, Israeli bombardments killed at least 12 people and wounded 28 others in a beach area with a high presence of displaced people. The attack was the deadliest one recorded in the past 10 days.
