Tehran has strongly condemned the Israeli military strike carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, which killed at least six Iranian nuclear scientists in their homes. The Islamic Republic’s authorities described the attack as a “selective crime” aimed at crippling Iran’s scientific progress and destabilizing the country internally.

In a forceful statement, Iranian officials denounced Israel’s actions as a clear violation of international law, accusing Tel Aviv of “terrorizing the region and promoting war openly before the world.” They also criticized Western double standards, pointing out how nations that claim to defend human rights and international norms continue to ignore Israel’s repeated aggressions.
According to Iranian news agency Tasnim, the scientists “were martyred while asleep, victims of a carefully planned operation designed to decapitate the intellectual core of Iran’s civilian nuclear program.” The identities of the victims are being confirmed, but all played vital roles in advanced atomic energy and nuclear medicine projects.
The strike came just days before the scheduled resumption of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington, which many interpret as an Israeli effort to derail diplomatic progress and maintain regional instability.
Ali Larijani, political advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, condemned the attack, saying, “The Zionist enemy aims to sow chaos, but this crime will only strengthen the unity and resolve of the Iranian people.”
Hours after the airstrikes, Iran launched more than 100 drones toward Israeli territory in what state media described as a proportional and legitimate retaliation, a fact acknowledged by Israeli military sources. Tehran also swiftly reshuffled its military leadership, appointing Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi as interim commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
During an emergency session, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf declared, “The time for revenge has come. It will be carried out by all necessary means. The enemy must prepare for exemplary punishment.”
This attack has unified all sectors of Iranian society and government under a common purpose. Officials vowed that defending Iran’s land, skies, children, military leaders, scientists, and citizens is an undeniable duty.
The operation marks a significant escalation in Israel’s ongoing policy of targeted assassinations, which in recent years has claimed notable Iranian figures such as physicists Mohsen Fakhrizadeh (2020) and Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan (2012). Human rights organizations have condemned these strikes as violations of international humanitarian law and potential war crimes.
Despite the tragic loss, Iran’s leadership remains steadfast. “For every scientist who falls, ten more are born in our universities,” Qalibaf affirmed, underscoring the country’s unwavering commitment to peaceful nuclear development and sovereignty.
The Islamic Republic warned the international community that Israel’s aggression would not go unanswered. Tehran pledged a decisive response to what it calls “a terrorist regime responsible for civilian deaths,” while urging the United Nations Security Council to uphold global peace and stability amid what it describes as the collapse of the international order.
“The revenge is near, God willing, closer than the neck of the Zionist terrorists,” the statement concluded, emphasizing that while Iran did not initiate the conflict, it will determine its final outcome.
