In a move widely condemned by progressive governments and human rights organizations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to prepare a new plan to further restrict humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip. This directive, announced on June 25, comes as famine and chaos grip the besieged enclave, with mounting evidence that Israel’s policies are deliberately worsening the crisis.
For months, Gaza has been described by UN officials as “the hungriest place on Earth,” with over two million Palestinians trapped under a relentless siege. Israel’s total blockade has sealed all border crossings, choking off food, water, and medicine.
Prices for what little is available have skyrocketed, and the population faces catastrophic conditions. According to the UN’s humanitarian affairs office, the famine is entirely man-made, driven by Israeli policy decisions.
The new military order follows reports that local Palestinian tribal leaders, not international agencies, managed to secure the entry of a handful of aid trucks, only to face attacks from looters allegedly backed by Israeli forces.
Palestinian officials and eyewitnesses report that Israeli snipers, drones, and tanks have repeatedly opened fire on crowds of desperate civilians gathering at so-called “aid centers,” killing hundreds and injuring thousands in a single month. Many victims were shot in the back as they tried to flee, and dozens remain missing, believed to be buried under rubble or abducted in the chaos.
Human rights groups have warned that these aid centers have become weapons of war, used by Israel to manipulate, control, and punish the civilian population.

Left-wing governments and organizations worldwide have condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza as war crimes and collective punishment. Echoing the sentiments ,many in the Global South have denounced what it calls Israel’s “criminal aggression” and “policy of genocide and extermination,” demanding an immediate end to the attacks and the blockade. Similar calls have come from progressive leaders in Brazil, Chile, and Spain, as well as from left-wing parties and activists across North America and Europe.
Hamas, has accused Israel of violating international humanitarian law by blocking essential supplies and imposing catastrophic conditions on millions of Palestinians, with “unlimited US political and military support” enabling these crimes. The group has called on the United Nations and the global community to intervene and ensure the delivery of desperately needed aid.
While a handful of critical Israeli outlets, such as Haaretz, have described the situation as genocide and questioned the government’s motives, most Western media have failed to report impartially on Israel’s aggression in Gaza. Investigative reports from independent journalists and left-wing organizations have documented indiscriminate bombings, the use of toxic weapons, and systematic attacks on civilians, yet these findings are often ignored or downplayed in mainstream coverage.

It is also a distraction from the ongoing atrocities and a waste of resources.

As Israel prepares to tighten its stranglehold on Gaza, the humanitarian crisis deepens by the hour. The blockade, far from being a security measure, is widely seen by left-wing observers as a deliberate act of collective punishment,a war within a war, targeting the most vulnerable. Progressive voices around the world continue to demand an end to the siege, accountability for war crimes, and true solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for survival and liberation.
