Israel Illegally Moves the Yellow Line and Expands Territorial Control in Gaza

Israel unilaterally altered the Yellow Line of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, moving the demarcation blocks into Palestinian territory, destroying civilian infrastructure, and forcing the displacement of residents. This constitutes a direct violation of the US-backed ceasefire agreement, according to satellite images analyzed by news agencies and local testimonies.

The evidence shows that concrete blocks used to mark the military border were placed tens and even hundreds of meters inside territory previously controlled by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, while the Israeli occupation erected at least six new permanent military fortifications for troop deployment.

According to satellite analysis, Israel has altered its line of control without international mediation, reducing the habitable space for the Palestinian population, at a time when the US administration, led by Donald Trump, is promoting a truce plan that demands the gradual withdrawal of occupation troops.

The images show that Israeli forces have cordoned off new swathes of territory, effectively expanding the militarized zone and restricting the safe return of thousands of civilians displaced after more than two years of a genocidal offensive.

The most visible case is in Al-Tuffah, a historic neighborhood in Gaza City that remains virtually razed after two years of continuous bombing.

After the October ceasefire, thousands of Palestinians returned to Al-Tuffah, trusting that the Israeli withdrawal would adhere to the Yellow Line established on official military maps. However, images taken on December 2 and 13 reveal that the Israeli army moved the border blocks approximately 200 meters into the neighborhood.

Subsequently, Israeli forces began a systematic demolition operation, destroying at least 40 residential buildings and leaving large areas in ruins.

While the exact method used for the recent demolitions was not specified, Israel has previously employed airstrikes, controlled explosions, and heavy machinery to eliminate civilian structures, which has been repeatedly denounced by humanitarian and human rights organizations as part of a strategy of forced displacement.

Currently, few buildings remain standing between the new line of blocks and the old armistice demarcation, consolidating a new Israeli military corridor within the Palestinian urban fabric.

Following the publication of the report, the Israeli occupation denied the accusations, asserting that “the claims presented in the article alleging that the army is acting to displace the Yellow Line are incorrect.”

However, he presented no evidence to contradict the satellite images and refused to answer specific questions about the movement of border blocks or the reasons for the demolitions in Al-Tuffah.

Experts in international humanitarian law warn that the unilateral modification of ceasefire lines and the deliberate destruction of civilian infrastructure constitute potentially serious violations of the Geneva Conventions, especially when they occur under a ceasefire agreement in force.

Humanitarian organizations also warn that these actions deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where millions of people face food shortages, a collapsed healthcare system, and mass forced displacement.

The new fortifications built by Israel indicate an intention for a prolonged military presence in strategic areas, reinforcing control over urban corridors and key Palestinian mobility points.

This pattern adds to a series of similar operations documented in other areas of the Gaza Strip, reinforcing allegations of gradual territorial expansion under the guise of security operations.
