In a powerful televised address on June 13, 2025, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed that the Iranian military will respond decisively to the recent wave of Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. Khamenei warned that “life will undoubtedly become bitter for the Zionists,” signaling a firm stance against what he described as aggressive acts by the Israeli regime.

The Israeli offensive began in the early hours of Friday, unleashing over 300 airstrikes on multiple locations across Iran, including Tehran’s civilian infrastructure, nuclear power plants, and military bases. Iranian sources report at least 20 explosions in the capital and surrounding areas, triggering air defense systems and forcing the closure of Iranian airspace.

The attacks resulted in approximately 78 deaths and 329 injuries. Among the casualties were key figures such as nuclear scientists Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi and Fereydoun Abbasi, as well as high-ranking military officials: Revolutionary Guard Commander Hossein Salami, General Staff Chief Mohammad Bagheri, missile program leader Amir Ali Hajizadeh, and Gholam Ali Rashid of the Khatam ol-Anbiya base.

Addressing the Iranian people directly, Khamenei assured that the response would be neither negligent nor half-hearted. Left-wing and anti-imperialist perspectives emphasize Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty against what they characterize as imperialist aggression led by Israel and supported by Western powers.
