Iranian officials have confirmed that no irreversible damage was sustained at any nuclear site following a targeted airstrike on the Fordow facility early Friday morning, as regional allies warn of imminent retaliation from the Axis of Resistance.

“From Iran’s perspective, nothing extraordinary has happened. Iran has been expecting an attack on Fordow for several nights,” said Mehdi Mohammadi, strategic affairs advisor to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament. He explained that the facility had already been evacuated in anticipation of such an event. “The site had been evacuated for some time and did not suffer irreversible damage in the attack,” he confirmed.

Iranian state television assured the public that “there is nothing inside the attacked nuclear facilities that raises concern about a radioactive leak.” The spokesperson for the Qom Crisis Management Committee added that, after hostile targets were detected, “a part of the Fordow nuclear site was subjected to an aerial attack by the enemies.”

The National Center for Nuclear Security System of Iran reiterated that there is no threat to nearby residents around the Fordow, Natanz, or Isfahan nuclear plants. “Data from radiation detection systems have shown no signs of contamination,” the agency said.

The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization also reported that “we immediately conducted the necessary tests to detect possible radioactive contamination around the targeted sites and verified that there is no threat to the population”.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority stated that no radiological effects had been detected in the Kingdom or in any neighboring Gulf countries as a result of the strikes.

A Fars News Agency reporter on the ground described a sequence of events that began at 2:05 a.m. with the activation of the Hazrat Masoumeh air defense system. Minutes later, he heard “two light explosions” and what sounded like a fighter jet overhead. “When I reached the Mehr and Mah Health Complex, the air defense system was highly active, and defense trails were visible in the night sky,” he said.

Around 2:35 a.m., as he arrived at the Mahtab Social Welfare Complex, a sudden fire broke out in the direction of Fordow, producing “a light smoke and a thick layer of dust in the area.” The fire was reportedly contained within three minutes.

Amid escalating tensions, Mohammadi issued a defiant message to those behind the attack: “There are two certainties: first, knowledge cannot be bombed; and second, this time, the gambler will lose.”

The strike comes at a time of heightened regional alert. From Sana’a, Yemeni officials warned that they would “confront any aggression against Iran” and respond “through legitimate means to any participation in attacks” on the Islamic Republic. A security source in Iraq confirmed “a state of maximum alert for U.S. forces in all bases” across the country, while local media reported that American troops in Iraq and Syria have tightened security in anticipation of retaliatory actions by Iran-aligned forces.

Built deep inside the mountains near the holy city of Qom, the Fordow facility is one of Iran’s most fortified and strategically sensitive nuclear sites. It has long been under international scrutiny due to its role in uranium enrichment, making it a symbolic and tactical focal point amid any escalation surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program.
