Iran began State funerals on Saturday for 60 people, including high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists, who were killed in Israeli attacks during the 12-day war that the Zionist entity started on June 13.
The public funerals began in Tehran around 8:00 a.m. local time (04:30 GMT), with thousands of people waving the Islamic Republic’s flags in the streets of the capital, as shown by local television broadcasts.
After a ceremony at Enghelab (Revolution) Square, the procession was set to travel approximately 10 kilometers to Azadi (Freedom) Square. Iran’s President, Masud Pezeshkian, attended the funeral, according to Iranian media.
The text reads: The people of Iran celebrate the victory of the Islamic Revolution against the Israeli regime.
Among those honored are the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami; the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri; and Fereydun Abbasi, former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
More than 600 people, many of them women and children, lost their lives in 12 days of Israeli aggression on Iranian soil. The bombings targeted military centers, nuclear facilities, and residential areas in Tehran, the capital, as well as in many other Iranian cities.
Iran described the ceasefire proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump as a defeat for Israel. On the other hand, Trump claimed that he saved the life of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, by not revealing his whereabouts to Tel Aviv and by not ordering U.S. armed forces to attack him.
Trump also stated that he does not rule out attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities again if he receives credible intelligence reports confirming new uranium enrichment at “concerning levels.”
