The France’s diplomatic initiative is the result of a meeting in Geneva between the foreign ministers of France, the United Kingdom and Germany, together with the high representative of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, and the Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi.
The French President confirmed this Saturday that talks between Iran and European nations will “accelerate” to seek a negotiated solution to the conflict with Israel, after receiving direct communication from his Iranian counterpart.
“I am convinced that there is a way out of the war and to avoid more serious dangers. To achieve this, we are going to accelerate the negotiations initiated by France and its European partners with Iran,” Macron declared from the Élysée Palace.
During the meeting in Swiss territory, Araqchi expressed Tehran’s willingness to hold new meetings soon, although he established a non-negotiable condition: the negotiations ultimately depend on the cessation of Israeli aggressions, something that Tel Aviv categorically rejects.
On 13 June, Israel attacked Iran, claiming that the latter is developing nuclear weapons, endangering Israeli security. The attacks affected both military infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities, including the Natanz, Isfahan and Jondab heavy water reactors.
According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, these attacks, which violate international law, killed 430 civilians and left more than 3,500 wounded.
In response, Iran deployed Operation True Promise III, and has launched waves of precision missiles and drone attacks against strategic military sites and facilities -not against civilians- that are routinely used by the Zionist entity to attack Gaza, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.
