Iran Congratulates Venezuela on Successful Parliamentary and Regional Elections

On Sunday, the Bolivarian forces achieved a sweeping victory, winning 253 seats in the National Assembly.

On Wednesday, Iran sent a message of congratulations to the Venezuelan government and people for the parliamentary and regional elections held on May 25.

“We congratulate the people and the Bolivarian government of Venezuela for holding the elections to the National Assembly, governorships, and local legislative councils, which were held in a peaceful atmosphere and in the presence of more than 1,400 international observers,” the Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry stated via social media.

“Through these elections, the Venezuelan people once again demonstrated their participation in determining their political destiny. We wish success and glory to the Venezuelan people and their elected representatives,” it added.

On Tuesday, the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE9 presented the final results of the parliamentary and regional elections carried out on Sunday.

With 99.88% of polling stations counted and a voter turnout of 43.18%, the United Socialist Party–led Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole (GPP) achieved a sweeping victory with 5,024,475 votes (83.42%), winning 253 seats in the National Assembly and 23 governorships.

The opposition Democratic Alliance ranked as the second political force with 361,769 votes (6.01%), securing 13 assembly seats and one governorship. It was followed by the UNTC-Unica Alliance with 304,425 votes (5.05%), which earned 11 seats. The Neighborhood Force obtained four seats with 141,588 votes (2.35%).

Of the 285 seats in the National Assembly, 282 were assigned during this electoral process. The remaining three, designated for Indigenous people representation, will be determined in an assembly scheduled for next Sunday, along with nine seats for state legislative councils.
