Indian authorities have issued a strong warning, emphasizing the need for decisive action against any violations of the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan. This comes shortly after a brief truce between the two nations collapsed, with New Delhi accusing Pakistani forces of breaking the deal.

India Condemns Ceasefire Breaches, Vows “Appropriate Response”

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated in a televised address that Pakistan’s military had repeatedly violated the ceasefire, leading to a “proportionate and appropriate” response from Indian forces. Misri stressed that India takes these breaches seriously, particularly after both sides agreed to halt hostilities starting at 5:00 PM local time.

“We urge Pakistan to address this situation with seriousness and responsibility,” Misri declared, as Indian troops remain on high alert. Tensions flared in the Kashmir region, with reports of explosions and gunfire, though no casualties have been confirmed.

Social media videos showed bursts of explosions in Indian-administered Kashmir, suggesting an escalation in clashes. Jammu and Kashmir Minister Omar Abdullah also confirmed hearing “intense gunfire along the border.”

However, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar denied the allegations, claiming no ceasefire violations occurred. The conflicting narratives highlight the fragility of the truce, which was meant to pave the way for renewed talks scheduled for May 12.

Kashmir remains a flashpoint between the nuclear-armed neighbors, who have a long history of conflict. The international community watches closely, hoping for de-escalation before the situation worsens further.
