The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has issued an urgent warning about the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system, describing it as “extremely fragile” amid continued Israeli bombardment and blockade.

The Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah has activated mass casualty protocols 12 times in the past two weeks due to gunshot and shrapnel injuries sustained near aid distribution sites.

An overwhelming majority of patients reported they were trying to reach food distribution points when they were targeted by Israeli forces.

Since the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) took control of aid distribution on May 27, at least 125 Palestinians have been killed and 736 wounded near these sites.

Witnesses described Israeli forces opening fire on civilians gathered near distribution hubs in Rafah and Wadi Gaza Bridge, contradicting Israeli claims that only warning shots were fired.

UN and Humanitarian Groups Condemn the System

The United Nations has warned that the new aid system lacks transparency, forcing Palestinians to relocate under duress while looting and Israeli restrictions further hamper humanitarian efforts.

The ICRC has called for urgent action, stating that Gaza’s remaining hospitals must be protected and reinforced to prevent further loss of life.
