The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has stated that there is no evidence Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program, pushing back against claims made by Israeli and U.S. officials.
In an interview with CNN, Grossi emphasized that the agency has found “no indication of a systematic effort” by Tehran to develop nuclear arms.
Grossi warned against speculative timelines regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities, noting that “if there were clandestine activities beyond our inspectors’ reach, we wouldn’t know”, but reiterated that IAEA reports show no signs of military conversion of Iran’s nuclear program.
Following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites—including Natanz and Esfahan—Grossi confirmed that underground facilities remain intact, though some above-ground infrastructure was damaged. The IAEA reported no radiological impact outside the sites and continues to monitor the situation closely.
Grossi’s remarks come amid rising fears of a broader conflict. Russia and China have condemned Israel’s actions, while the IAEA has warned that attacks on nuclear facilities violate international law and could trigger a large-scale nuclear catastrophe.
