Bolivian Foreign Minister Celinda Sosa welcomed the Honduran leader, who greeted the Sucre Infantry Regiment as the national anthems of Honduras and Bolivia were played on the Alcantari airport.

Castro, whose term runs until the Nov. 30 elections, is the first head of state to arrive for the commemorative events honoring Bolivia’s Bicentennial.

The main events will take place Wednesday in Sucre, beginning in the morning with the hoisting of the Bolivian flag by President Luis Arce in 25 de Mayo Square, home to the Casa de la Libertad — the historic site where Bolivia’s Act of Independence was signed in 1825.

Following the flag-raising, an honorary session will be held to mark Bolivia’s 200 years of independence from Spain. President Arce is scheduled to deliver an official address, followed by the taking of the Bicentennial’s official photograph.

Martin Maturano, the presidential delegate for the Bicentennial, said that around 40 foreign delegations have confirmed their participation in the celebrations. Some of these will be led by presidents, foreign ministers, cabinet officials, and other high-ranking representatives.

Maturano also confirmed the attendance of about a dozen international organizations, which will be represented by their top authorities.
