Member of Hamas’s political bureau Izzat al Rishq reaffirmed on Saturday the Palestinian resistance group’s willingness to reach a “comprehensive agreement that would end the aggression in Gaza,” following accusations made the day before by U.S. President Donald Trump that Hamas was unwilling to sign any deal.

“U.S. statements overlook the real obstacle to all agreements: Netanyahu’s government, which obstructs, evades, and shirks its commitments,” stated Al Rishq in an official communiqué.

He also emphasized that Trump’s accusations contradict the assessment of Qatar and Egypt — who, along with the U.S., are mediating the conflict — regarding Hamas’s stance, which they “expressed satisfaction and appreciation” for.

“We are surprised by the statements of President Trump, and before him, the U.S. special envoy Witkoff, which contradict the mediators’ evaluation of the movement’s position and do not align with the progress that had been made in the negotiation process,” the statement continues.

The communiqué stresses that Hamas’s latest response to the U.S.-led proposal for a 60-day ceasefire was “positive and flexible,” but it also called for certain provisions. For instance, it highlighted the importance of “ensuring the large-scale flow of aid and its distribution through the United Nations and its authorized agencies, without Israeli interference.”

It further adds: “We were concerned with reducing the size of the buffer zones where the occupation would remain during the 60 days and avoiding densely populated areas to allow most of our people to return to their homes.”

These demands conflict with the Zionist regime’s stance, which has consistently opposed a full troop withdrawal from the enclave, alleging “security reasons.” None of the drafts so far include a firm commitment to completely ending Israel’s war of annihilation against the enclave.
