The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas argues that Israel is attempting to “whitewash” its image before the world by resuming airdrops of humanitarian aid, following a recent spike in deaths from malnutrition in Gaza that has intensified international criticism and pressure.

In this context, the Gazan organization asserts that reintroducing this method of aid delivery—which Israel had already implemented last year— “endangers the lives of civilians and humiliates their dignity, rather than providing them with protection and comprehensive assistance.” Dozens of Gazans died in 2024 due to airdropped pallets of humanitarian aid, which sparked chaos and deadly stampedes.
“The only way to end the brutal crime of famine in the Gaza Strip is through the establishment of a comprehensive humanitarian response. This involves halting the aggression, lifting the imposed criminal siege, and fully and permanently opening land crossings to humanitarian aid, ensuring its flow and delivery to the population in accordance with mechanisms approved by the United Nations,” the statement declares.
As of this Sunday, Gazan medical sources have confirmed the deaths of at least 29 people in various parts of the Gaza Strip, either while waiting for humanitarian aid or as a result of bombings—just hours after the Israeli army announced a “tactical pause” to facilitate food distribution and the establishment of “safe corridors” for the arrival of UN trucks.
