Nearly 1.3 million Haitians have been forcibly displaced due to escalating gang violence, marking a 24% increase since December 2024 and the largest displacement crisis in Haiti’s history.
While Port-au-Prince remains the epicenter, gang activity has spread to other regions, forcing 147,000 people in the Centre department and 92,000 in Artibonite to flee their homes. The North has seen an 80% rise in displaced individuals, worsening the humanitarian crisis.
Displaced families lack access to healthcare, education, and clean water. The number of makeshift shelters has surged from 142 to 246 since December, with 83% of displaced individuals relying on host families, straining already vulnerable households.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has provided over 3 million liters of clean water, basic health services to 6,000 people, and psychological support to 8,500 displaced individuals. However, the agency calls for increased international funding to expand aid efforts and address the root causes of violence.
