The meeting aims to discuss the different mechanisms to advance the political process and bilateral cooperation, reported the Executive in a statement.
Dbeiba, who governs the west of the divided country, reaffirmed his cabinet’s commitment to cooperating with the UN mission for Libya (UNSMIL) and to “support its efforts to achieve a global solution to hold elections on a constitutional basis agreed upon among Libyans.”
Furthermore, the note states that his government is continuing with its “national strategy,” which seeks to “subject” all institutions to legal regulations in order to “preserve the prestige of the State and unify decision-making power.”
In the meeting, Tetteh reminded Dbeiba, according to a UNSMIL publication on X, of the “need to maintain the fragile stability” of the country, at a time when the increase of military personnel on the streets of Tripoli activated the alarms of international organizations, which urged to avoid armed confrontations “to create conditions conducive to the political process.”
On the other hand, UNSMIL noted that the UN representative welcomed “the efforts of the Attorney General Sedik al Sour and the recent release of several people detained arbitrarily,” without either party providing more information in this regard.
She also praised the “contribution” of the security and military mechanisms, and emphasized the importance of “avoiding any action or speech that could provoke an escalation or the outbreak of new confrontations,” especially in the most populated areas.
According to both sources, the German ambassador to Libya, Ralph Tarraf, and the Deputy for Political Affairs of UNSMIL, Stephanie Khoury, also participated in the meeting between Dbeiba and Tetteh.
