The opioid crisis in Ghana is escalating, with young people increasingly falling victim to addiction, particularly to a drug known as “Red”. Health authorities are deeply concerned as social media videos reveal the distressing effects of opioid misuse among the youth.
The crisis has been fueled by weak regulations and illegal importation, allowing unauthorized sellers to infiltrate the supply chain. In response, the government has launched the “Ghana Against Drugs – ‘Red Means Stop'” campaign, aiming to raise awareness, strengthen regulations, and curb substance abuse.
Experts warn that without urgent intervention, the country could face a deepening public health emergency. What do you think about the government’s approach to tackling this issue?
