The Russian Chief of the General Staff reviewed the progress of combat missions operating toward Krasnoarmiisk.

On Monday, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov inspected the situation at the front line of the Center military group, ahead of an expected announcement that the United States will send more weapons to Ukraine.

More specifically, Gerasimov reviewed the progress of combat missions operating toward Krasnoarmiisk, took note of reports from unit commanders, and issued appropriate instructions for future military actions.

In March, he had already visited the same group as it attempted to advance into Krasnoarmiisk, a key logistical hub in the Donbas. Liberating this city would mark another step toward full control of the Donetsk region.

Since then, Russian troops have made advances primarily to the east of the city, surrounding the Ukrainian stronghold—about five kilometers to the southwest and roughly 12 kilometers to the northwest.

U.S. President Donald Trump would announce on Monday the delivery of new weapons to Kyiv—U.S.-made arms to be funded by NATO’s European members. In response, the Kremlin noted that the United States, in fact, never actually suspended military aid to the Ukrainian army.

“The fact is that U.S. supplies of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to Ukraine were ongoing and still are,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

On Sunday, Trump announced he would send Patriot missile interceptor systems to Ukraine, but said the European Union would pay for them—a move expected to be finalized Monday during his meeting with NATO Secretary Mark Rutte.

“I haven’t agreed on the number yet, but they’ll get some because they need protection. But the EU is paying for it. We’re not paying anything, but we’ll send them. It’s going to be a business deal for us, and we’ll send Patriots,” Trump told reporters after attending the FIFA Club World Cup final.
