The Gaza humanitarian crisis has reached catastrophic levels, with reports indicating that at least 57,823 people have lost their lives since the Israeli military offensive began on October 7, 2023.

On Friday, July 12, 2025, the Gaza Health Ministry confirmed the grim toll, noting that over 137,887 others have sustained injuries during the ongoing conflict. In just the last 24 hours alone, hospitals across the enclave received 61 new bodies and treated 231 additional injured individuals.

Most of these casualties stem from strikes targeting densely populated areas, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence. As the death toll climbs, the Gaza humanitarian crisis deepens, with overwhelmed medical systems struggling to cope with the influx of victims.

Total Collapse of Rescue Operations

The Civil Defense in Gaza has reported a complete breakdown in emergency response capabilities, further exacerbating the Gaza humanitarian crisis. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the agency, revealed that all official rescue vehicles in Gaza City are now out of commission. As a result, teams have been forced to rely on private vehicles to reach disaster sites.

“Unfortunately, we cannot respond to every distress call,” Basal admitted, highlighting how many bodies remain trapped under rubble or lying in the streets due to a lack of equipment and safe conditions.

Since Israel resumed its intensified campaign on March 18, 2025, an additional 7,261 fatalities and 25,846 injuries have been recorded. These figures underscore the relentless nature of the bombardments and the widespread destruction left in their wake.

Forced Displacement Intensifies Across Western Gaza

Parallel to the rising casualty count, the Israeli military has issued new evacuation orders in western Gaza, including areas previously deemed relatively safe. Humanitarian organizations and local authorities warn this marks a continuation of a systematic policy of forced displacement against the Palestinian population.

According to the Ministry of Health, at least 788 people have died and more than 5,199 have been injured while waiting for humanitarian aid since the start of the conflict. These numbers expose the severity of collective punishment and flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.

International Community Condemns Violations

Numerous human rights groups and international agencies have expressed alarm over the escalating Gaza humanitarian crisis. Reports of indiscriminate violence, obstruction of aid deliveries, and deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure have drawn sharp condemnation from global observers.

The lack of access to clean water, medical care, and food has only worsened the emergency, with civilians continuing to suffer disproportionately. Calls for an immediate ceasefire and strict adherence to international law — including the protection of non-combatants and unimpeded humanitarian access — remain largely unheeded by the parties involved.

UN Warns of Imminent Systemic Collapse

The United Nations has issued urgent warnings about the imminent collapse of humanitarian and health services in Gaza. With Israeli authorities continuing to restrict the entry of essential supplies, aid operations are at risk of grinding to a halt.

In a recent appeal, the UN urged for the immediate opening of roads and border crossings to prevent total system failure. It also condemned the killing of women and children, such as the attack in Deir al-Balah earlier this week.

As the Gaza humanitarian crisis spirals, global leaders are increasingly alarmed by the combination of violence, mass displacement, and resource shortages that threaten to create one of the worst humanitarian disasters of the century.
