At least six people were killed and over 40 wounded Tuesday when Israeli airstrikes hit Gaza’s European Hospital, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry. Medical sources told EFE the attacks specifically targeted the emergency room entrance and maintenance area.
Victims were transported to nearby Nasser Hospital, where two more Palestinians died – including journalist Hassan Aslih. This marks the second hospital attack by Israel in 24 hours.
The Israeli military admitted striking the European Hospital, claiming it targeted a “Hamas command center” beneath the facility. In a statement, they accused Hamas of using medical complexes for terrorist operations, endangering civilians.
Gaza’s healthcare system nears collapse as most hospitals have been rendered inoperable by sustained bombing. The few remaining facilities face severe shortages due to Israel’s blockade on medical supplies.
Israeli media reported the strike specifically targeted Mohamed Sinwar – younger brother of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, killed last year.
In a separate incident, Palestinian Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal said rescue teams recovered ten bodies from an Israeli attack on the Al Afghani family home. During recovery efforts, the site was struck again, injuring two rescue workers.
Since Israel’s October 2023 offensive began, Gaza’s Health Ministry reports 52,908 total deaths and 7,680 killed since ceasefire ended March 18.
The hospital attacks have drawn global condemnation, with calls for immediate international action to address Gaza’s worsening humanitarian disaster.
