This new case of abduction brings the number of Venezuelan minors being illegally held in U.S. territory to 18.

On Wednesday, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello denounced that U.S. authorities took four children away from their mothers before the women were deported to Venezuela.

“They took their children from them as they were leaving the United States,” he said, adding that this new case of abduction brings the number of Venezuelan minors being illegally held in U.S. territory to 18.

The claim came from three of the 49 women who returned to Caracas on Wednesday aboard a flight carrying 203 deported migrants. The women informed that “four children were taken from them,” two of whom belong to the same mother.

The Bolivarian minister also accused Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele of being a criminal and part of a “team of Venezuelan kidnappers.” “He has at least 252 Venezuelans kidnapped in El Salvador. We demand their release,” Cabello said.

The Venezuelan official further accused the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump of encouraging the “theft” of migrant children.

As a result, Cabello recently handed a letter to Apostolic Nuncio Monsignor Alberto Ortega in Caracas, addressed to Pope Leo XIV, asking him to mediate in the case.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro continues efforts to secure the return of the 252 migrants deported from the U.S. in March to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador, which Bolivarian officials describe as operating like “a concentration camp.”
