‘They are renewing the corrupt business of those who continue to enrich themselves at the expense of U.S. taxpayers,’ he said.
On Thursday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez harshly criticized U.S. politicians, accusing them of promoting efforts to politically destabilize his country.

“While they support multi-million-dollar cuts to public services in the U.S., anti-Cuban politicians are pushing for a US$75 million budget for subversion in Cuba,” Rodriguez said.
“They are renewing the corrupt business of those who continue to enrich themselves at the expense of U.S. taxpayers and the suffering of our people,” the Cuban diplomat added.
Previously, Rodriguez had singled out U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the primary figure behind the use of public funds for “subversive plans” against Cuba.
The criticism comes amid a new wave of bilateral tensions following the Cuban parliament’s rejection of President Donald Trump’s memorandum, which reinforces the economic embargo and bans U.S. tourism to the island. His remarks coincide with the recent U.S. Senate approval of a federal budget cut package totaling US$9 million, promoted by Trump, which still awaits approval in the House of Representatives.
A day before Rodriguez’s comments, Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power issued a statement condemning the June 30 presidential memorandum that prohibits U.S. tourism to the island and expands trade restrictions.
The parliamentary document labeled the measure as part of a “genocidal economic war” and reiterated that the embargo is intended to “strangle Cuba in order to provoke a social collapse.” Cuba’s current shortages of food, medicine and fuel are a direct result of U.S. sanctions.
Cuban legislators also rejected the island’s inclusion on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism — a designation that hampers financial transactions and deepens the economic crisis. “The U.S. is using pressure tactics to achieve what it failed to do with the Bay of Pigs invasion: to dominate Cuba,” the statement said.
