The Venezuelan electoral authority extended the voting time until 8 pm to allow all citizens in line to exercise their right to vote in the elections of mayors and councillors, in which more than 21.5 million Venezuelans are called, in addition to the approval of community projects.

Amoroso highlighted the presence of these observers, who carry out audits of the electoral process. “We thank the observers for always being in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, the National Electoral Council and the electoral power, in a country where there is the best electoral system in the world,” he said.

At the first National Popular Youth Consultation, held in parallel with municipal elections, more than 37,000 projects were voted on in 5,338 communes, seeking to strengthen citizen participation in local policies. Approximately 90,000 trained personnel and international observers monitored both electoral processes.

The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, stressed the importance of the elections as a reflection of the democratic future of Venezuela, celebrating the high participation of citizens and the great affluence in the voting centers.

For his part, President Nicolás Maduro stressed the importance of popular sovereignty, referring to article 5 of the Venezuelan Constitution, which states that “sovereignty lies with the people”. Maduro stressed that these elections, the seventh in 12 months, represent a victory for peace and democracy.

“The imperialists and the fascists have never been able and will never be with us. Today is a day of participation”, said the head of state and invited citizens to support youth projects.
