The CNE’s secretary, Ana Paola Hall, said that, for the most part, the country has had an orderly and smooth opening of voting, but that difficulties have been received in the distribution of electoral kits and technology kits in some municipalities, mainly in the Central District and in San Pedro Sula.
For his part, the advising member of the Honduran CNE, Marlon Ochoa, commented that a report will be provided on the specific causes of these delays, once the information gathering has been completed, and the pertinent measures will be taken.
“We regret this inconvenience. We assure that it is being solved and we guarantee the opening of one hundred percent of the polling places in the country,” Ochoa declared, CNE reported as well a satisfactory result regarding the use of biometric devices in the three political parties.
“So far, 20,000 biometric devices have already reported their initialization to the CNE’s monitoring system, equivalent to 80 percent of the polling stations,” Ochoa added.
The number of fingerprints registered between 09:00 and 10:00 (local time) doubles those registered between 08:00 and 09:00 (local time), “which indicates that participation continues to grow,” said Cossette López Osorio, president of the CNE of Honduras.
López Osorio added that the polling stations that have had difficulties in setting up on time should unanimously extend the voting day until 18:00 (local time) and allow all voters remaining in line to exercise their right to vote.
