Egypt renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on Sunday, warning that any forced displacement of Palestinians remains a non-negotiable red line.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, speaking alongside German Minister Reem Alabali-Radovan, condemned Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and the West Bank as “blatant and unacceptable”, citing catastrophic consequences if the war continues.

Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s “sincere efforts” to broker a truce and open humanitarian corridors, reaffirming Cairo’s role as a key mediator in the Doha negotiations between Israel and Hamas, alongside Qatar and the United States.

He also unveiled Egypt’s finalized reconstruction blueprint for Gaza, developed in coordination with the US, World Bank, and Palestinian Authority, and endorsed by the Arab League. The plan includes:

  • A six-month early recovery phase focused on rubble removal, temporary housing, and restoration of critical services
  • A five-year reconstruction phase to rebuild homes, infrastructure, and establish ports and an airport
  • A Gaza Administration Committee of Palestinian technocrats to oversee governance and aid distribution

Abdelatty confirmed that a high-level international conference will be held in Cairo once a ceasefire is reached, featuring workshops on security, governance, and public administration for post-war Gaza.

Germany expressed support for Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, with Alabali-Radovan’s visit signaling growing European engagement. Meanwhile, Israel’s military reportedly advised political leaders to accept a ceasefire deal, citing diminishing tactical gains and mounting international pressure.

The proposed 60-day truce includes the release of hostages, withdrawal of Israeli forces from key areas, and the resumption of aid via UN-coordinated channels, sidelining the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Since October 2023, Israel’s offensive has killed nearly 59,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and displaced nearly the entire population of Gaza. Hospitals lie in ruins, and famine conditions have worsened, with UN agencies warning of mass starvation.

Israel faces legal scrutiny at both the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice over alleged war crimes and genocide. Egypt reiterated that no peace is possible without a sovereign Palestinian state, and that no forced displacement will be tolerated.
