The former presidential candidate confirmed her complaint of electoral fraud.

On Saturday, former Ecuadorian presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez announced, following the inauguration of Daniel Noboa for the 2025-2029 term, that she would not recognize him as president of Ecuador, reaffirming her claims of electoral fraud.

“I will not recognize an illegitimate, illegal and unconstitutional power, born from the buying of votes and consciences behind the backs of the people—using, of course, Ecuadorians’ own resources,” Gonzalez said in a statement on social media. She refuses to accept the results of the April 13 runoff election, in which Noboa allegedly secured 55.63% of the valid votes, compared to her 44.37%.

Gonzalez, a candidate from the Citizen Revolution (RC), the party led by former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017), reiterated her view that the electoral process “was not legal, constitutional, free, or—worse yet—democratic,” renewing her accusation that electoral authorities favored the sitting president.

“The elections were tainted, corrupted, and carried out with the complicity of electoral authorities who blocked all access to ballot box openings and vote recounts—because that’s where the evidence of fraud was,” she said.

The text reads, “I came for the toast. Although he hasn’t explicitly acknowledged Daniel Noboa’s victory, Colombian President Gustavo Petro was present at his inauguration in the Assembly and at the celebration in Carondelet. When asked about it, he said, ‘Glas is a political prisoner’.”

“Many would like us to come forward and recognize the results of the April 13 elections and silently accept the perpetrated fraud, even when the preliminary reports from international observers of the European Union and the Organization of American States (OAS) point to the existence of institutional fraud,” said Gonzalez, who is also the president of Citizen Revolution, Ecuador’s main opposition force.

The leftist leader emphasized that recognizing the results and Noboa’s victory “would be a betrayal” of Citizen Revolution’s voters “and of the people who live in fear.”

“Even if they keep attacking us, even if they continue this smear campaign against us, even if our lives are put at risk, we will never silence our voices, because they are the voices of millions of Ecuadorians who are crying out for better days,” she concluded.

Noboa’s inauguration was held at the National Assembly, where the Citizen Revolution parliamentary bloc did not attend the event. In a statement, the bloc said it would not validate “an inauguration born of fraud.”

“Noboa is an illegitimate president, imposed through an electoral fraud full of shadows, accusations and never-clarified irregularities,” the leftist group said, referring to the electoral authorities’ rejection of all challenges and vote review requests filed by the Citizen Revolution.
