A 53-year-old British man has been arrested and is believed to be the driver of the vehicle. A car rammed into a crowd in Liverpool city center earlier on Monday as thousands were joining the celebration. The vehicle was quickly stopped at the scene, and a male suspect was soon taken into custody.

“The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement following the incident.

The Premier League also issued a statement, saying it is “shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening.” “Our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected,” a spokesperson added.

On Tuesday, King Charles III and Queen Camilla addressed yesterday’s events, saying the multiple car crash in Liverpool is “truly devastating.”

“My wife and I are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the terrible events that took place in Liverpool. It is truly devastating to see what should have been a joyful celebration end in such distressing circumstances,” Charles III said, offering a few words to the people of Liverpool during this “heartbreaking” time.

“I know that the strength of the community spirit for which your city is known will be a comfort and support to those who need it,” he concluded.
