Thousands are expected to participate in the ‘No Kings Day’ protests on Saturday.

On Wednesday night, dozens of citizens were arrested during protests in several U.S. cities against immigration raids and President Donald Trump’s deportation policy.

Protests in Los Angeles: A War Against Multiple Enemies

Downtown Los Angeles experienced a second consecutive night under curfew. Protesters defied the order and gathered in front of City Hall. Between 20 and 30 people were arrested.

In Spokane, Washington, a curfew was also declared to break up a protest that escalated into unrest. More than 30 people were arrested during the disturbances.

In Seattle, demonstrators lit a large bonfire in the middle of the street. Police dispersed the crowd after a five-minute verbal warning and arrested several individuals.

Police in Las Vegas, Nevada, ordered the dispersal of a demonstration near the federal courthouse downtown, declaring the gathering illegal.

In Manhattan, New York, about 200 protesters gathered for a tense demonstration marked by shouting directed at the police.

San Antonio, Texas, a majority-Latino city, also saw protests. They remained peaceful despite a decision by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to deploy the National Guard to control the gatherings.

The protests began in Los Angeles on June 6 in opposition to raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Trump’s deportation policies. Clashes with police and the burning of vehicles followed.

In response, Trump ordered the deployment of 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines — a move rejected by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who both said the action is disproportionate and intended to inflame tensions.

Nationwide protests have been called for this coming Saturday, a day organizers are calling “No Kings Day,” arguing that Trump is behaving like a monarch.

That same day, Trump has scheduled a large military parade in Washington to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, which also coincides with his 79th birthday. The Republican president has warned that any protests against the parade will be met with “great force.”
