REDH denounced sanctions, interference claims and threats against Cuba’s sovereignty
The Cuban chapter of the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity (Red de Intelectuales, Artistas y Movimientos Sociales en Defensa de la Humanidad, REDH, in Spanish) on Monday condemned what it described as the United States’ “historical obsession” with controlling Cuba, rejecting Washington’s sanctions policy and recent statements by U.S. officials against the island.

In a public statement, the organization argued that U.S. policy toward Cuba follows a long-standing strategy aimed at undermining the country’s sovereignty and political system.
“Imperialism coldly plans its timing. Every step is part of its historical obsession with taking over Cuba,” the statement said.

REDH criticized the tightening of U.S. measures against Cuba, including restrictions targeting fuel supplies and sanctions imposed between Jan. 29 and May 7. According to the organization, the measures seek to deepen economic pressure on the island while Cuba advances efforts to expand renewable energy generation through solar projects.
The statement also responded to recent remarks by Marco Rubio, who described Cuba as a “failed state” and alleged the presence of Chinese and Russian bases on the island, calling them “a threat to the Western Hemisphere.”
REDH rejected those claims as false and interventionist
“Everything is absolutely false, and they all know it: from the members of Congress who visited Cuba to the major media outlets,” the organization stated.
The Network in Defense of Humanity further accused sectors of the Cuban exile community aligned with U.S. policy of supporting the restoration of criminal activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution, while seeking to regain control over nationalized properties, ports and schools.

Every step is part of its historical obsession to seize control of Cuba,” the organization stated in a press release.
According to REDH, Washington’s current policy reflects growing political pressure linked to “its defeat in Iran, the proximity of midterm elections, and the signatures of more than six million Cubans willing to defend their sovereignty.” The statement added that the failure to provoke internal unrest in Cuba has increased frustration among U.S. authorities.
The organization also warned against any potential military action against the island.
“An invasion of Cuba will not only be against Cuba. It will be against all the peoples of the world who are beginning to sign up and prepare themselves, as they did at Girón to defend Cuba against aggression,” the statement said.
REDH additionally referenced the legacy of Fidel Castro and Raúl Castro, highlighting Cuba’s international relations based on solidarity and mutual respect.
“They want our collapse. They want our humiliation. They are mistaken about this people. They are mistaken about history,” the organization concluded.
