The Cuban government on Sunday condemned the attack against Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, who was seriously injured the day before, and advocated that the region continue to be a “zone of peace.”

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed on social media the “strongest rejection” of his country’s Executive Branch for the attack, conveyed his “solidarity” to those affected, and wished the “speedy recovery” of the politician, a pre-candidate for president from the Uribista Democratic Center (right-wing) for the 2026 elections.
“Latin America and the Caribbean must continue to be a zone of peace,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs concluded.
Uribe Turbay was shot on Saturday afternoon in Modelia, a neighborhood located west of Bogotá, during a political event. A minor, 15 years old, has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the events.
The senator received two gunshot wounds and remains hospitalized in the Santa Fe Foundation of Bogotá, where he underwent surgery for approximately four hours. His condition remains critical, according to the latest medical report.
Uribe Turbay is close to former President Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010) and has positioned himself as one of the most severe critics of the current Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, especially for the security crisis in the country and for his intention to convene by decree a popular consultation on labor reform, despite the fact that this initiative has already been rejected in the Senate.
