The meeting was chaired by Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Miao Deyu and Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Peñalver Portal, who led delegations that exchanged views on bilateral issues, regional developments and international matters of shared interest.

During the meeting, both sides conducted an in-depth assessment of the current state of mutual cooperation, highlighting key achievements and ongoing projects in the economic, scientific, educational and cultural fields. They also reiterated their commitment to building a more just and equitable international order, based on respect for sovereignty, non-interference and solidarity among nations.

In the context of Monday’s agenda, the Cuban deputy foreign minister also held a second high-level meeting with Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu, with whom he reviewed recent developments in the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The vice ministers emphasized their shared determination to effectively implement the agreements reached by the presidents and leaders of the Communist Parties of Cuba and China, as well as to continue strengthening the historic friendship between the two peoples.

The text reads, “Unity will always be our best response to blockade and who try to suffocate us by putting more obstacles to efforts to build a better country.”

During the meetings, the Chinese government reaffirmed its strong support for Cuba’s condemnation of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial embargo, and Beijing’s rejection of Cuba’s inclusion on Washington’s unilateral list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

Chinese authorities reiterated their backing for the island in multilateral forums and expressed their recognition of the Cuban people’s resilience in the face of the hardships imposed by sanctions.

Peñalver Portal also held a dialogue with the diplomatic staff of the Cuban State Mission in Beijing, where he outlined the current priorities of Cuban foreign policy, including the promotion of bilateral economic cooperation, support for joint projects in various strategic areas, and the projection of the principles of revolutionary diplomacy.

During the meeting with staff, the Cuban deputy minister highlighted the resilience of the Cuban people in the face of U.S. aggression, emphasizing the role of the Communist Party in leading a nation that continues to defend its sovereignty and dignity amid current global challenges.

This new round of consultations is part of a relationship described by both countries as special, historic and strategic. It has been strengthened in recent years through high-level visits, technological cooperation, preferential trade agreements and joint actions in multilateral organizations.
