The Chinese Foreign Ministry indicated that He will visit the UK from 8 to 13 June “at the invitation” of the British government and will take advantage of his stay in this country to participate in the “First meeting of the China – US economic and trade consultation mechanism with the US side.”
This announcement took place the day after US President Donald Trump announced that the tariff meeting between US trade delegates. U.S. and China, which agreed this Thursday in a phone call with Xi Jinping, will be held on June 9 in London.
He was the He in charge of leading the trade negotiations held last month in Geneva with the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, which resulted in a tariff truce between the two powers.
The conversation between the two leaders took place after Trump last week accused China, without providing details, of violating the bilateral tariff truce agreement reached in May after the meeting in Geneva.
Beijing later responded by arguing that Washington was the one who violated the agreement by imposing new restrictions on chips or the cancellation of visas for Chinese students announced in the last week.
The two countries had agreed to a three-month tariff truce under which the U.S. committed to reducing its tariffs from 145% to 30%, and China from 125% to 10%, in an attempt to open the door to a broader agreement.
China confirmed that the trade negotiations with the US. in Switzerland are held at the request of Washington, reiterating its willingness to dialogue under conditions of equality, mutual respect and reciprocity.
Beijing warned that the use of tariffs by the U.S. will not affect the Chinese economy or its development, and that any form of pressure or coercion is ineffective against China. The meeting will be between Chinese Vice Prime Minister He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
