‘Nothing is more urgent than restoring Colombians’ security,’ Bogota Mayor Galan said.
On Tuesday, Cali Security Secretary Jairo Garcia confirmed that three bomb explosions targeting police stations in the city left at least two people dead and 36 wounded, including three minors.

To ensure proper care for the victims, Cali’s Health Department issued a hospital alert across the city’s public and private networks, activating blood banks and special patient transport.
One of the bombs, placed on a motorcycle, was detonated in the Melendez neighborhood, another in the Manuela Beltran neighborhood, and a third in the Los Mangos district.
“They want to take us back to 1989. We won’t allow it. Long live Colombia!” said Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder, referencing the year drug cartels caused a bloodbath in the country.
The Text reads, “At this time several violent events continue to register in the Valle del Cauca. A few minutes ago a motobomba exploded in the Melendez neighborhood police station in Cali.”
Initial images of the attacks show several people lying in the street as bystanders and police attempt to aid them. Authorities also reported another explosion in Jamundi, a municipality near Cali.
The attacks occurred one day before Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s scheduled visit to Cali to join a union-led rally supporting a proposed referendum on labor reform, which was rejected by the Senate.
“The purveyors of chaos and terror seek to destabilize the region,” said Valle del Cauca Gov. Dilian Toro, who urged Petro to convene a Security Council to “develop comprehensive actions to ensure citizens’ safety and peace.”
In Cauca department, two car bombs detonated in the towns of El Bordo and Corinto, causing property damage but no casualties. In Caloto, a police officer was killed by a sniper. Another explosion later shook the Villa Rica toll booth, located 12 miles from Cali.
The army attributed the attacks to a dissident faction of the disbanded Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), allegedly led by Nestor Gregorio Vera, alias “Ivan Mordisco.”
On Tuesday, FARC dissidents were also blamed for another bomb explosion in Guachinte, a village in Jamundi, Valle del Cauca. The explosive, planted on a road sign, killed three people.
Jamundi Mayor Paola Castillo said another device detonated near the Potrerito police station, injuring five people who were treated at Pilot Hospital. Three additional bombs exploded in the urban area without causing damage or injuries.
“My full solidarity with Cali, Valle, Cauca, and the entire Pacific region. Today, the country awoke under threat. Multiple explosions, wounded people, and widespread fear and uncertainty. This is the time for all who believe in peace and democracy to unite in defense of this nation. Nothing is more urgent than restoring Colombians’ security,” said Bogota Mayor Carlos Galan.
“We express our full support for the police, who have been directly targeted in these cowardly attacks, and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to defending citizens’ safety,” stated the Army’s Third Division, which oversees the region.
