“Unfortunately, during a direct attack, the mayor’s private secretary, Ximena Guzman, and the mayor’s adviser, Jose Muñoz, lost their lives,” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said, noting that the attack took place at the intersection of Calzada de Tlalpan and Napoleon Street in southern Mexico City.

The suspects were reportedly riding a motorcycle. Citizen Security Secretary Omar Garcia instructed the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security and the Attorney General’s Office to assist in the investigation.

Sheinbaum also pledged full support to the Mexico City mayor, promising the involvement of the National Intelligence Center, the Intelligence Subsecretariat, and the Defense and Navy Ministries.

The text reads, “Ximena Guzman, Clara Brugada’s secretary, and advisor Jose Muñoz were murdered. The attack occurred on Calzada de Tlalpan and Napoleon, in the Moderna neighborhood. Authorities are already investigating. The motive is unknown.”

Authorities are already conducting the necessary investigations to determine the motive behind the attack. Surveillance footage from the area is also being reviewed to identify the suspects.

“There will be no impunity. Those responsible will be arrested and brought to justice,” Sheinbaum said, extending her condolences to the families of the slain officials.

“Ximena Guzman, 42, was a distinguished sociologist with a solid track record in public service. A graduate of the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana and with a master’s degree from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, she dedicated her career to social development, working in municipalities such as Iztapalapa and Miguel Hidalgo, and in the Mexico City Government Secretariat,” the digital media outlet AnteNacion recalled.

“The attack has generated speculation on social media, where some see it as a warning to Brugada, who took office in October 2024 as part of Morena’s Fourth Transformation project… Brugada mourned the loss and promised justice, assuring that they will not rest until they clarify the facts and find those responsible for this act that has plunged the city into mourning,” it added.
