In Buenos Aires, Peronist supporters spent the night outdoors surrounding the home of the Justicialist Party (PJ) leader, located in the Constitucion neighborhood.
Earlier, the Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling issued in 2022 that sentenced Fernandez to six years in prison and a lifetime ban from holding public office over alleged irregularities in awarding public works contracts in the province of Santa Cruz.
“I’m here to show that Cristina is loved, respected, and supported for all the rights she gave us,” said Lautaro Gonzalez, a young student.
The text reads, “The vigil at Cristina’s house continues. An impressive number of activists and followers spent the night outside Cristina’s home in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución to express their support and protest against her proscription.”
“I’m driven by my conviction because an injustice is being committed against Cristina,” emphasized Ruben Desampier, an administrative employee protesting in the Constitucion neighborhood.
Thousands of Fernandez supporters spent the night in the streets surrounding her home to show their support during what could be one of her final nights of freedom.
In the city of Rosario, in Santa Fe province, Argentines gathered in 25 de Mayo Square in support of the former president. In San Miguel de Tucuman, capital of Tucuman province, citizens chanted, “All with Cristina.”
At the Justicialist Party headquarters in Cordoba, another hundred demonstrators waved flags and chanted against President Javier Milei. Protests also took place in the coastal city of Mar del Plata and in the southern city of Bariloche.
Once Fernandez is officially notified of the Supreme Court’s ruling, she will have five business days to appear before the judiciary so that her arrest can be enforced. Her legal team may request that the court grant her house arrest, as she is over 70 years old.
