After twelve hours of unlawful arrest, the social leader Juan Grabois and the student Valentín Peralta were released on the morning of this Sunday, after having been arrested the day before for the occupation of the Juan Domingo Perón Institute, study centre recently dissolved by the government of President Javier Milei.

The detention, which lasted approximately 12 hours at the Federal Investigation Superintendency in Villa Lugano, was described by the defence of Grabois as an illegitimate deprivation of liberty and arbitrary.
After his release, Grabois stated that there was no specific charge or formal eviction order following the taking of the building. He stated that there is no need to fear the Milei government and that confronting them is the best he has done, warning further that Bullrich will pay dearly for his actions.
The occupation of the Juan Domingo Perón Institute, declared a national historical heritage site and the former residence of Perón and Eva Duarte, began last Saturday afternoon with Grabois and a group of activists, in protest of its closure and the dismissal of its employees.
The Milei government had closed the study center at the end of May, considering it an “avoidable and unnecessary budgetary burden.” Grabois, on his X account, had announced the recovery of the site, defending the Peronist legacy and national identity.
The detention of social leaders in Argentina generated widespread condemnation from all of Peronism. The Justicialist Party (PJ) demanded their release and that of Peralta, alleging that the detention was carried out without a judicial order.
Thousands of demonstrators gathered in front of the police station during the night, and political leaders such as Horacio Pietragalla, Itai Hagman, and Natalia Zaracho, among others, came to the place to show their support.
