The incident occurred on May 19, 2025, and the officer claimed the firearm discharged accidentally while he was changing clothes, according to reports from Todo Noticias (TN).

The 21-year-old victim, who was eight months pregnant, was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors performed a decompressive craniectomy to relieve pressure on her brain. The case has sparked concern about domestic violence within security forces and the need for thorough investigation.

The arrest of the police officer has prompted calls from human rights advocates and left-wing organizations for a transparent investigation and justice for the victim and her family.
